6 September 2007 - STRABAG is making further inroads into the market in Qatar. The group has landed two important large-scale projects in the country. With the construction of the 8km dual-carriageway New Izghawa Link Road (contract volume: € 35.6 million) and the 35km motorway in Wakrah North & South (contract volume: € 43.4 million), STRABAG is realising its first road construction projects in the country. Construction on both projects is set to begin before the end of September 2007, with completion planned in 2009 following a construction period of 18 and 27 months, respectively. Ordering party for both projects is the state of Qatar.
In addition to the ongoing major project to build the world’s second gas-to-liquids facility for Shell (contract volume: € 72.5 million), the construction of a beach villa for the Emir of Qatar and the interior work on the Misnad Tower in Qatar’s capital Doha are nearing completion.
The current volume of orders in the Middle East region amounts to around € 800 million. With the new projects, the group’s construction volume in 2007 will nearly double over last year’s levels to reach € 400 million. The region is among the most dynamic growth regions for the company.
