Vienna, 27 Nov. 2007 – Satellic, Siemens and STRABAG have signed a cooperation agreement to jointly exploit the Russian market for toll systems. Russia is planning a number of large-scale infrastructure projects and these are expected to require a system to collect roadway usage fees. The planned construction of some 3,200 km of new motorways in Russia and Ukraine over the next five years presents the three companies with a significant market potential, which has led to the decision to work together in this field.
Satellic – a subsidiary of Germany’s T-Systems – and Siemens possess many years of experience in the area of satellite toll systems. STRABAG currently operates toll motorways in four European countries: Hungary, Poland, Croatia and Ireland.
The cooperation among the three companies involves the concentration of know-how at all levels required for toll collection: from the technical equipment over IT infrastructure to structural implementation. The new consortium is to be presented to the Russian officials in the coming weeks.
