First contract for STRABAG in Sochi

Vienna, 24 April 2008 Austrian construction company STRABAG AG has been mandated to develop the working documentation and complete the construction of a terminal complex at Adler International Airport located about 40 kilometers from the city of Sochi in Southern Russia.

Works include new constructions as well as renovation works on roof and facade. Newly built is a two-level corridor with a length of 450 metres, which will guarantee an improved connection to the planes.

The total constructed area will amount to 63,000 m2 with a total project value of € 62 million. The works start on 25th of April, completion is expected in spring 2009. STRABAG AG is the leader of a 50:50 working consortium together with the Russian construction company “Renaissance Construction”.

The modernisation and expansion are part of the preparation for the Olympic Games 2014 in Sochi. Construction of a new terminal began in early 1990s, but work on the building was subsequently suspended for more than a decade. In 2007, Adler International Airport became part of Basic Element’s Aviation Sector. Later, Basic Element’s airport management company Basel Aero announced a tender to complete the airport. Nine Russian and foreign companies took part in the tender.
