Vienna, 4 November 2009 Yesterday, 3 November 2009, STRABAG received by mail the ruling of the Russian antimonopoly commission rejecting the petition by the Moscow building authority for revocation of STRABAG’s licence.
Earlier, Anatoly Zaiko, the head of the Moscow building authority, had given an interview in which he assigned to STRABAG the blame for the roof collapse at a newly built underground garage.
In this regard, STRABAG CEO Hans Peter Haselsteiner today declared: “We have been active in Russia for 19 years. We have survived the ruble crisis, the political turmoil of the nineties and various attacks by mafia-like organisations. We will survive this media campaign as well. We know from where it was launched.”
“STRABAG,” Mr. Haselsteiner added, “has of course kept all qualitative standards which apply to the group in Russia. Unfortunately, mistake can sometimes happen, as was the case with the aforementioned parking garage. We unfortunately awarded the planning externally, and it was deficient. This is how it came to the accident. What we have to reproach ourselves for is not to have reviewed the planning adequately enough.”
STRABAG will turn over about € 350 million in Russia this year; this is 3 % of the consolidated revenue.
