Vienna, 1 April 2010
At the end of March 2010, STRABAG, Central and Eastern Europe’s largest construction company, was awarded the tender to build the Küblis bypass tunnel in the canton Gaubünden with a total value of CHF 85 million (approx. € 59 million).
The bypass is part of National Route A28 Landquart-Klosters and will serve to relieve the traffic in the town of Küblis. The contract for the 2.2 km tunnel includes the construction of the safety gallery and the management of the Schanielatobel disposal site neighbouring the bypass.
Construction work is expected to begin in June 2010 and should be completed in November 2015 (excl. road construction). STRABAG’s share is 100 %.
“The Küblis Tunnel is not the only project in Switzerland in which STRABAG’s tunnelling competence is needed. STRABAG was also involved in the Uetliberg Tunnel, which was completed in 2006, and the Gotthard Base Tunnel, which is to be put into operation in 2017,” says STRABAG SE CEO Dr. Hans Peter Haselsteiner.
In 2009, STRABAG generated an output volume of € 378 million in Switzerland.
