Santiago de Chile, 9.11.2012 Der chilenische Unternehmensbereich Tunnelbau des europäischen börsennotierten Baukonzerns STRABAG SE hat einen Planungs- und Bauvertrag für die Mehrheit der Tunnel- und Ingenieurbauarbeiten des Wasserkraftwerkskomplexes Alto Maipo unterzeichnet. Mit einem Auftragswert von USD 490 Mio. handelt es sich hierbei um eines der größten privaten Bauaufträge Südamerikas.
Bauherr ist Alto Maipo S.p.A., ein Tochterunternehmen der chilenischen AES Gener und der US-amerikanischen AES Corporation. Die Arbeiten umfassen Detailplanung und -bau der Tief- und Ingenieurbauarbeiten der beiden Wasserkraftwerke Alfalfal II und Las Lajas. Der Gesamtauftrag besteht aus Tunneln und Schächten mit einer Gesamtlänge von 46,5 km, die im Bagger- / Sprengvortrieb sowie im Vortrieb mit Tunnelbohrmaschine errichtet werden. Die Planungs- und Bauphase beginnt im Oktober 2012 und wird voraussichtlich viereinhalb Jahre dauern. Der Wasserkraftwerkskomplex wird über eine Gesamtleistung von ca. 531 MW verfügen.
Die Lage des Wasserkraftwerkprojekts Alto Maipo befindet sich 50 km südöstlich der Stadt Santiago im oberen Flussverlauf des Río Maipo im Gemeindegebiet von San José de Maipo. Der Ort befindet sich in den Anden in der Nähe der argentinischen Grenze mit Gipfeln bis zu 6.500 Metern Höhe.
Nachdem STRABAG im Juli einen Tunnelbauauftrag in der weltgrößten Kupfermine in Chuquicamata erhalten hat, stärkt der europäische Baukonzern mit diesem neuen Großauftrag für den Alto Maipo Wasserkraftwerkskomplex seine Position am chilenischen Tunnelbausektor.

Santiago de Chile, 9 November 2012 The Chilean tunnelling division of the European publicly listed construction company STRABAG SE signed a design and build contract for the majoritiy of the tunneling and civil works of the Alto Maipo Hydroelectrical Power Plant. The contract is worth about USD 490 million – one of the biggest private construction contracts in South America.
The client is Alto Maipo S.p.A., which is a subsidary of the Chilean-based AES Gener and the US-based AES Corporation. The scope of works includes detail design engineering and construction of underground and civil works of the two hydroelectric plants Alfalfal II and Las Lajas. The complete contract consists of tunnels and shafts with a total length of 46.5 km excavated by drill and blast as well as by tunnel boring machines. The design and construction period starts in November 2012 and will last for about four and a half years. The hydroelectric complex will have a total capacity of approximately 531 MW.
The location of the Alto Maipo Hydropower Plant is located 50 km southeast of the city of Santiago, in the high Maipo River basin of the municipal district of San José de Maipo.This area is situated in the Andes close to the Argentinean border with peaks up to 6,500 m.
After getting awarded a tunneling contract for the world’s largest copper mine Chuquicamata in July, STRABAG SE is strengthening its position with this big new contract for Alto Maipo Hydropower Plant on the Chilean tunneling market.
