Ecological sustainability at STRABAG SE
STRABAG's responsibility in the area of the environment
As an energy- and resource-intensive sector, the construction industry plays a key role in the sustainable transformation of the economy. Fossil fuels are currently used throughout our entire value chain: from the production of building materials, through the operation of our construction machinery, to the structures we build. In addition to our high energy and resource requirements, we also share responsibility for generating a large volume of waste. We therefore have a responsibility to implement measures that reduce our negative impact on the environment.
To achieve our environmental sustainability goals, it is essential to implement measures in various areas across the entire value chain. The focus is on the following areas:
- Decarbonisation: We are working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions along our value chain as much as possible. By 2030, our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions are to be reduced by 42 per cent and our Scope 3 emissions by 25 per cent. By 2040, we aim to achieve climate neutrality in our own operations.
- Circular economy: We are working to implement the principles of the circular economy by reducing the consumption of primary raw materials and waste, and by conserving high-value resources.
- Biodiversity & Ecosystems: By establishing a Group-wide biodiversity management system, we aim to minimise our negative impact on local flora, fauna and fungi and contribute to the preservation of intact ecosystems.
To achieve these objectives, pilot projects, research initiatives and feasibility studies are carried out across the Group and, upon successful completion, integrated into the Group’s existing processes.
