Social sustainability at STRABAG SE
Social responsibility as part of the ESG strategy
Another part of ESG is social responsibility, which focuses on our responsibility towards people and society. We are focussing on these three strategic focus areas:
- Our employees
- Human rights along the value chain
- Added value for society

Our employees
We set strategic goals in the areas of diversity, equality and inclusion with the aim of promoting the well-being of our employees. The focus here is on minimising the gender pay gap, increasing the proportion of women in management each year and training managers in equality, diversity and inclusion. We are committed to recruiting, training and valuing our colleagues. In the area of occupational safety and wellbeing, we are committed to preventing accidents and minimising risks with a clear vision in mind: ‘Vision Zero – Zero Accidents’. We implement measures such as health programmes and initiatives to promote work-life balance for the physical and mental wellbeing of our employees.
Human rights along the value chain
As an international construction group, we have an impact on people along the entire value chain and recognise the dignity and rights of all people as the basis for our actions. Our aim is to improve the human rights situation along our global value chain and in our own business operations. We want to continue to organise our business relationships for sustainable development in a socially responsible manner. Due to the small-scale and complex supply and value chains, risks also arise in the area of social sustainability in STRABAG's area of activity. Our Social Compliance Management System and associated measures serve to counter these risks and to implement human rights due diligence obligations.
Added value for society
We are concerned with how we impact society through our business activities. We expand infrastructure and create jobs through our range of construction services - even in structurally weak regions. Inclusive and sustainable construction methods contribute to the well-being of users. In this way, we are working to generate positive effects for society. An additional goal is to improve the interaction and involvement of affected communities.
