Our plan for environmental and social transformation

Due to its enormous consumption of energy and resources, the construction industry accounts for a significant proportion of global greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, through its construction activities, the industry has a considerable impact on nature and society. The fragmented and complex nature of supply chains gives rise to risks in the areas of environmental and social sustainability, which we must address proactively.

At STRABAG, we recognise our responsibility as a leading construction technology group

STRABAG adopted its first sustainability strategy in 2021. Even back then, we had already committed to decarbonising our value chain.

In order to successfully implement the many facets of sustainability at STRABAG, we have refined our existing Sustainability Strategy 2025 with regard to decarbonisation and expanded it to include additional topics relating to the environment, social responsibility and corporate governance. After all, sustainability is a holistic concept. Our business activities have potential impacts that must be carefully considered.

In the area of environmental sustainability, our aim is to minimise STRABAG’s negative impact on the environment as much as possible. A key lever for achieving this is to significantly reduce our consumption of resources and fossil fuels. In addition to decarbonisation, we are also focusing on the topics of circular economy and biodiversity and ecosystems.

Social sustainability aims to minimise the negative impacts on people as much as possible. As part of our sustainability strategy, we promote the well-being of our employees, implement measures to protect human rights throughout the value chain, and work continuously to create added value for society and the communities affected.

Governance

We implement measures to ensure business conduct of the highest integrity. To this end, we define responsibilities and establish clear processes for implementing decisions and measures. The focus here is on fair competition and sustainable corporate governance.
