At the same time, more and more high-tech industries are entering the market, demanding speed, precision and absolute reliability. Then there is the medical life sciences sector, which – driven by demographic change – is generating growing demand for new healthcare centres, laboratories and pharmaceutical facilities, accelerating their expansion.
Meanwhile, the political dimension of this development is gaining equal importance. Europe aims to strengthen its technological sovereignty – the ability to develop and operate critical key technologies independently. Reshoring – the targeted return of important production- and value-creation stages – is a strategy to reduce geopolitical dependencies and enhance the resilience of supply chains. The European Chips Act will help to channel some € 43 billion into expanding European semiconductor production by 2030, while Horizon Europe is driving research and innovation with a further € 95 billion. Mainova Webhouse Building B
The project involves building a compact data centre with office space, extensive technical installations and an additional auxiliary building for power distribution. Thanks to façade and roof greening, along with resource-efficient site management, STRABAG was awarded the DGNB Sustainable Construction Site certification.• Construction period: 2023–2024

Equinix FR16 Data Centre
The project at the Equinix Campus in Frankfurt comprised a data centre, an office building in a timber-hybrid design, and a transformer and substation. University of Kiel medical campus

HANDTMANN production hall
In Kechnec, Slovakia, STRABAG built a high-tech facility for manufacturing and processing aluminium components for the automotive industry. The modern foundry, with integrated logistics, automation and administration, is designed for efficiency and expansion. The site includes the production hall, gatehouse, hazardous and waste storage, sprinkler tank, parking areas, water management and utility connections. Transformer stations, HVAC plants and automated crane systems ensure operations meet industrial standards.• Contract value: € 28 million

Technology Hub Katowice
On the site of the former Wieczorek coal mine, STRABAG is creating a cutting-edge technology centre. The technology hub will combine research and development laboratories, space for companies in the tech and e-sports sectors, and facilities for applying artificial intelligence (AI) and immersive formats such as virtual and augmented reality. The project blends reconstruction, conversion and refurbishment with innovative urban development and employs alternative renewable energy supply methods to transform industrial heritage into a sustainable future.• Contract value: € 135 million
