Roads that can barely handle modern heavy goods transport. Bridges – 16,000 of them in Germany alone – deemed in need of repair. Railways where trains are coming to a standstill more and more often. Much of Europe’s mobility infrastructure is ageing – and at a time when people and goods are more mobile than ever before. At the same time, pressure is mounting to find effective answers to climate change. Sustainable mobility could be one of the keys. But before Europe can take on a pioneering role in this field, it must first clear a massive backlog of investment – both in renewing existing networks and in developing new, sustainable infrastructure.
To eliminate this backlog, advance the mobility transition, and respond to the ongoing trend towards urbanisation, governments worldwide are making substantial funds available. In Germany alone, around € 500 billion from a special fund will be channelled into infrastructure between 2025 and 2036. STRABAG’s core CEE markets – including Poland, Romania and Croatia – are also benefiting significantly from extensive EU funding programmes. Investment is strong beyond Europe too: in Australia, for example – where STRABAG has been present since late 2024 – billions are being channelled continuously into expanding and renewing transport networks.
STRABAG: your partner for sustainable mobility infrastructure
- STRABAG is the market leader in Germany and also holds leading positions in Central and Eastern European markets. Mobility infrastructure has always formed the company’s core business, accounting for around 35% of the order backlog in 2024.
- Thanks to its size and decades of experience, STRABAG can deliver projects of almost any scale – from refurbishing individual stretches of road to delivering complex megaprojects in bridge and railway construction.
- With robust supply chains, STRABAG ensures delivery even under challenging conditions. More than 80% of the asphalt required is produced in-house, with the Group operating over 550 of its own production facilities.
- As a technology leader, STRABAG also sets benchmarks in sustainability: from a purely technical standpoint, asphalt can already be fully recycled and reused in a resource-efficient manner.
